Website: [link] After England defeated Ecuador in the World Cup today, memories of my visit to the "Banana Republic" came back to me. This is part 2 of another picture I have online. As gas prices doubled in Ecuador in 1999, mass protest erupted in the country. People reacted by digging trenches in the road and creating barricades to stop production in the coastal city of Guayaquil. The atmosphere was chaotic and dangerous. This scene is etched in my memory. The street sign really got my attention. Una Via translated means One Way. South America has a huge problem with street kids.
