After England defeated Ecuador in the World Cup today, memories of my visit to the "Banana Republic" came back to me. This is part 2 of another picture I have online.

As gas prices doubled in Ecuador in 1999, mass protest erupted in the country. People reacted by digging trenches in the road and creating barricades to stop production in the coastal city of Guayaquil. The atmosphere was chaotic and dangerous. This scene is etched in my memory.

The street sign really got my attention. Una Via translated means One Way.

South America has a huge problem with street kids. Can you imagine living on your own at his age?!

Banana Republic.. where is it? It's a great photo.. This little guy is so cute.. but what's the story behind the fires?

Vince, I apologize for not responding to your message.. I had somebody send me a pile of photos without skewing and it jammed up my Inbox, as I'm on dial up! I will be getting back to you soon!!

What a compelling contrast between the street child and the actual street...it really made my jaw drop, it's a scene I'm very unfamiliar with.

Thanks man I appreciate it:)

This is a once in a lifetime capture. I really am impressed with how you got the contrast of the chaos and the smiling kid right together.
