In March 1999, gas prices doubled in Ecuador and mass protest erupted throughout the country as a result. The citizens employed a successful protest technique by digging trenches in the road and lighting tires on fire. It brought the countries economy to a standstill and the govenment was forced to compromise.

This scene shows street kids in the middle of the chaos.

When protest erupts in South America it usually involves the traditional practice of digging trenches in the road, lighting tires on fire and anything to block roads and halt production. This protest was in reaction to gas prices doubling. The entire country of Ecuador came to stand still as you could not travel anywhere. It was total anarchy. This was my first time in a "troubled zone." Nothing compared to a war zone but enough to make you look over your shoulder and be on your toes every second.

very well captured emotion here, and excelent framing i must say, although in my opinion it is much more difficult for people in my state of affaris to feel empathy for the children, althouh maby sympathy, but artisticly speaking a great photograph, and quite heartwrenching
